The security check – What's permitted in your luggage
Important information about the security checks
From Friday 26 June 2026, passengers who begin their journey in Zurich (local passengers) will be permitted to carry liquid containers with a capacity of up to 2 litres in their hand luggage. The only exception is double-walled containers (e.g. thermos), which may only be carried when empty.
For transfer passengers at Zurich Airport, the 100ml/1L bag limit for liquids will continue to apply beyond 2026, as these security checkpoints will not be upgraded until a later date.
A maximum of 2 power banks, each with a capacity of up to 100 watt-hours, and 18 batteries, each with a capacity of up to 100 watt-hours, may be carried in hand luggage only.
Passenger baggage – search for permitted and prohibited items
For an easy and quick passage through the security check, make sure you're properly prepared. Use the search function below to find out if items in your carry-on or checked baggage are permitted or prohibited. Important: Even if items are permitted in baggage, they may be subjected to an additional security check and not cleared for transport if any doubts exist. All information applies only to departures from Zurich Airport. For more information, please contact your airline.
How to reclaim dangerous goods that were removed from your baggage
If you are carrying an item which is not permitted, or if you pack something incorrectly, it will be removed from your baggage at Zurich Airport. Items that are released for storage can be collected from the luggage storage facility subject to a handling fee. The storage period for dangerous goods is 30 days from the date of your flight. After this period, the dangerous goods will be disposed of without compensation and without prior notice. In exceptional cases, you may apply for an extension of the storage period. To do so, please contact the luggage storage facility facility in good time.
You can collect dangerous goods that were removed from your baggage from left luggage. This will incur a processing fee. Please give at least three working days’ notice if you wish to collect dangerous goods. Please e-mail gpa@zurich-airport.com and provide the following information:
- The last six digits of the barcode
- Date of confiscation or date of flight
- Type of item
- Name of the passenger that the item was confiscated from
- A third party can also collect your dangerous goods.
